#934 Quit thinking “destination unknown” can’t be an amazing journey

by Dean Dwyer on March 18, 2010 · View Comments

I shot this a few days ago.  It is exactly one minute and 4 seconds long.

Ironically, this was just after I discovered that my main consulting gig will be finishing up at the end of April.

While the teenie tiny reptilian part of my male brain (located in the same area where I get hit with open cupboard doors, bathroom mirrors and poorly placed signs) has green lit a full out panic to occur, there is another part (the silent majority) that quietly embraces the unknown journey that lies ahead; because in the end, the most amazing trips in life are those where we have no clue where we are going to end up.

To view on your cell phone and see a less flattering version of me (I assume this is what I would look like if I was a hologram) click here.

To see a less hologrammy me, click below. This one takes a moment to upload, but it is way more flattering.

Be sure to catch the closing credits as well, as I know you want to the answer to this.

So what journey have you delayed for fear of the unknown?

Head on over to the comment section and let us know. You might be amazed to know how many people can relate to your struggles.

To an idea worth quitting,

Dean

I'm deeply offended that you caught the trees without their leaves. They couldn't even defend themselves or run the other way! On another note, I appreciate the video and thoughts, I too believe in moving forward to see what happens, even if you don't know where forward is, and if it's the right forward.
  • Forward is good. As for the trees...well maybe they should be a little more discreet.
  • Brilliance indeed! Serendipity is an amazing discovery - no expectations, no preconceived notions, no frame of mind. And then you are caught by surprise - and it's wonderful and it's what gives life some of its mystical, magical moments.

"To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years"

  • Leda you are not going to believe this, but a friend of mine sent me an email earlier about this post, and while the theme of this particular post didn't resonate with him...he too sent me the exact same poem.

How weird is that. I have never seen the poem before now i get twice in 4 hours.

What does it all mean???? :-)

As my best friend, Leda, says, if you don't know where you're going, all roads will lead you there. Lifa is all about the unknown and the unexpected. If we don't learn to cherish and embrace that, than we are missing the whole point.
And to answer your question, the journey I have delayed for fear of the unknown, was to the States. But, God willing, I'm going there next week!!!!
  • Woo hoo!!! about your journey to the States. I just went to New York for the first time a few months back...it was awesome...and no one made fun of my Canadian accent :-) Keep me posted on your adventures...I am sure they will be amazing.
  • Great post that completely nails our journey through life. I think our destination is always, somewhat, unknown-when do we ever get anywhere without a few surprises? And how perfect to capture the trees wearing nothing but their winter skin-all our journeys should be so pure.
  • Hey Tracey, you are right. Whether it be a leap into a relationship or a dive into a business...their is tons of unknown everywhere we go. Winter skin...I like that :-)
