#976-Quit stating why it can’t be you: 40 great questions to ask instead

by Dean Dwyer on December 7, 2009 · View Comments

With the new year fast approaching, I have begun to contemplate all the  great opportunities that await in 2010.  In the past I have managed to somehow sell myself short or talk myself out of lofty goals, thinking that particular destiny is suited for someone other than me.

I am resolving to no longer engage in this type of thinking.  Great things happen to those who feel great things should happen to them.

So in that spirit, I challenge you (me/us) to open up new possibilities by instead asking, “Why can’t it be me?”

  1. Why can’t it be me who finds a better job doing work I really love that makes a difference?
  2. Why can’t it be me that makes more money so I have the freedom to spend my time where it has the most impact?
  3. Why can’t it be me who starts my own business so I no longer have to compromise my morals and values?
  4. Why can’t it be me who develops the exercise and eating habits required to have the body I know I should have?
  5. Why cant’ it be me who makes the choice to choose happiness over unhappiness?
  6. Why can’t it be me who actively gives and participates in worthwhile charities?
  7. Why can’t it be me who opens up my home to someone in need?  (Note:  Go see the movie, “The Blind Side.”)
  8. Why can’t it be me who stands up in front of hundreds of people who have come to hear my message?
  9. Why can’t it be me who becomes the leader in my chosen field?
  10. Why can’t it be me who makes everyone feel they belong regardless of their current life circumstances?
  11. Why can’t it be me who chooses understanding over being right?
  12. Why can’t it be me who dishes out unconditional love?
  13. Why can’t it be me who attracts all things good?
  14. Why can’t it be me who sees the bright side to all situations, even in their darkest moments?
  15. Why can’t it be me who summons the strength and courage when it is most needed?
  16. Why can’t it be me who who holds myself to the highest standards possible?
  17. Why can’t it be me who lights up a room when I enter it?
  18. Why can’t it be me who people look to as a role model?
  19. Why can’t it be me who touches the lives of many?
  20. Why can’t it be me who uses my money to impact the lives of others (animals included) who are less fortunate?
  21. Why can’t it be me who sees people for what they can be and not for what they are?
  22. Why can’t it be me who forgives?
  23. Why can’t it be me who is my biggest raving fan?
  24. Why can’t it be me who makes the lives of those I come in contact with each day, better?
  25. Why can’t it be me who turns my perceived weaknesses into strengths?
  26. Why can’t it be me who leans on those I trust when I most need them?
  27. Why can’t it be me who attracts amazing people into my life?
  28. Why can’t it be me who is always available when people most need me?
  29. Why can’t it be me who is the expert?
  30. Why can’t it be me who doesn’t let what others think stop me from doing what I know is right?
  31. Why can’t it be me who listens, really listens to people?
  32. Why can’t it be me who chooses to seek win-win scenarios with all those I deal with?
  33. Why can’t it be me who introduces a new idea to the world?
  34. Why can’t it be me who is brimming with confidence in me?
  35. Why can’t it be me who finds the time to do the many things I really want to do?
  36. Why can’t it be me who has amazing personal relationships?
  37. Why can’t it be me who makes my voice heard?
  38. Why can’t it be me who lives life as opposed to letting life live me?
  39. Why can’t it be me who creates an extraordinary life for myself?
  40. Why can’t it be me?

Your takeaway…

We spend our whole lives doubting ourselves and talking ourselves out of being more than we can be.  Consider quitting this.  Imagine the untold riches you could begin to attract  if you began to quit stating why it can’t be you.

To an idea that I think is really worth quitting,

Dean

  • Great add Julie. It's funny (in a bang your head against the wall kind of way) how difficult that question is to answer.
