I was speaking to my friends on the train on the way to college the other day about this. I would not accept money for those reasons, I learn nothing from it.

By the way, the posts on this blog so far are of VERY high quality... outstanding.

Valid point James. I will assume those reading the blog meet the first 5 you mention. My question then is how self-actualization actually occurs? It has been my experience that it comes from being exposed to different trains of thoughts whether it be blogs (such as this), books, conversations, people we meet, videos we see etc. It is through such interaction that we begin to examine ourselves. The lottery mentality is one such mindset we need to reflect upon as we further our evolution along the path of self-actualization.

Sounds good! But...

#1. If my girl made that statement, she would be considered "long lost" very soon.
#2. You still need to consider all the things in our lives that prevent us from gaining those skills.
#3. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs suggests that we are not able to fully develop those advanced skills as our resources are first eaten up by factors at the bottom of the hierarchy, such as money for shelter, food, water, security. Eliminate those resource hogging factors and one is left with the top of the hierarchy, such as self actualization, recognition, status.
