Well November has just about come to a close. It is my first official complete month. Here is a summary of some of the more interesting things that went on.
Changes to the site…
There were five significant changes that occurred.
Change #1…
The first was a decision to set a finite number of posts about quitting. I have committed to 1000 (gulp!) Yup, ONE THOUSAND posts on quitting.
That is also why you have noticed that posts now have a number in front of them. I am actually counting backwards towards number 1. I just completed #979 that will hit your inbox tomorrow.
The idea actually came from another site I happened upon. What I like about the idea, is that it is a very ambitious undertaking on my part. But while it is grand, it also has a beginning and an end. Three posts per week is 156 per year.
At that rate, it would take me 6.4 years to complete 1000 posts. That takes me into the beginning of 2016. I would be 50 years old at that time. Wow, that just makes me laugh. I sure hope I am still alive when that day comes.
I’m a fly by the seat of my pants kind of guy so I don’t even know what I am doing tomorrow, but at least I now have a clear vision of my commitment to the blog.
Change #2…
I also changed the sign up form for the subscription to this email. I have made it much bigger and much more in your face. I want it to be the first thing new people see when they come to the site, in the hopes that it will encourage them to sign up.
Change #3…
I added a new tab that archives my past posts. I didn’t like the way the current program did this because it didn’t give new readers a quick overview of all the posts I have done. The tab is entitled “Countdown to #1” and chronicles my posts from the most recent, right down to number 1000.
Change #4…
One of the interesting things of having a blog is the amount of time that goes into researching how to do it more effectively. I came across some interesting resources on headline writing this past week.
I realize this is one area I need to improve on. I have actually gone back and reworked some of the previous post’s headlines. Moving forward, I will actually spend more of my time on the headline to try and really capture the reader’s attention.
Change #5…
With the focus now on 1000 posts, I also updated my tagline, which now reads, “QuitBit-1000 ideas worth quitting.”
